[Summary]Intumescent halogen-free flame retardants: This type of flame retardant mainly acts through the condensed phase. At a lower temperature, the acid source can produce esterified polyol (carbon source) and acid which can be used as a dehydrating agent; at a slightly higher temperature, the acid and polyol (carbon source) are esterified, and the amine in the system is used as a catalyst for the esterification reaction to accelerate the reaction.

What are the common halogen-free environmentally friendly flame retardants?

Intumescent halogen-free flame retardants: This type of flame retardant mainly acts through the condensed phase.

Phosphorus halogen-free flame retardants: This series of flame retardants include a variety of, such as red phosphorus masterbatch, resorcinol double, etc. Red phosphorus masterbatch has low smoke and high flame retardant efficiency; no dust pollution, excellent processing performance; low density, good thermal stability, and less decline in physical properties of products; no frost, no migration, and no corrosion during processing. Resorcinol has the characteristics of high flame retardancy and low addition amount, which has little effect on the physical properties of the finished product.

Nitrogen-based halogen-free flame retardants: nitrogen-based flame retardants are melamine and its compounds with phosphorus, mainly melamine, melamine cyanuric acid and melamine phosphate. Nitrogen-based flame retardants have many advantages: efficient flame retardant; halogen-free; no corrosion, thus reducing the problem of mechanical corrosion; resistance to ultraviolet light; good electrical performance, the most obvious advantage in electronic and electrical products; do not fade, do not spray frost; recyclable.

Inorganic halogen-free flame retardants: Inorganic flame retardants are mainly aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. This type of flame retardant has many advantages, but also has the disadvantage of adding a large amount, which will affect the performance of the product.

Environmentally friendly brominated halogen-free flame retardants: These flame retardants include decabromodiphenyl ethane, brominated epoxy resins, and brominated polystyrene. Decabromodiphenyl ethane does not produce PBDD or PBDF when burned. Its thermal stability and light resistance are very good. The most valuable thing is that its flame retardant plastic can also be recycled. Brominated epoxy resin, also known as tetrabromobisphenol A epoxy resin oligomer, brominated epoxy resin has a satisfactory melt flow rate and high flame retardant efficiency, excellent thermal stability and light stability, and can give the flame retardant substrate good mechanical properties, the product does not bloom. Brominated polystyrene is mainly used in PA, PBT, PET and other thermoplastic resins, and the use process needs to be used in conjunction with antimonide.
